Non-urgent advice: New Cytology Screening Updates
📌 What’s changing
From 1 July 2025, people aged 25 to 49 (and who have a cervix) who attend a routine cervical screening and test negative for high-risk HPV (hrHPV) will be invited again in 5 years instead of the previous 3-year interval.
Those aged 50-64 already have a 5-year interval if their test is negative.
If someone tests positive for high-risk HPV or has other risk factors (recent HPV history, cell changes) they will continue to be invited more frequently (for example in 1 year) rather than moving to the 5-year interval.
